When Eefje paints she often start from a blot on which she unleash her imagination.  She plays with the image by using different materials, techniques and layers.

Sometimes she works with bright colours and sometimes with dark ones. Emotion is the common theme throughout her entire oeuvre, where she let herself be inspired by nature. She looks for the unity between all living things.

In order to represent these images she challenges herself. The phenomenon of pareidolia is established. The illusion is being created. The more strange the more fascinating. Initially what appears to be recognizable does not always turn out to be that way afterwards. This is how she gives shape to the deformity and gives the image a surrealistic touch.

Her intention is to question the way she thinks about herself as an artist, and in doing so she also works with series that express her feelings of that one period. She always asks herself different questions about the end result. What went into her consciously or unconsciously, or what did the subconscious brings to the surface?
